Pastor M. Darrell Rice serves as Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in Delmarva-DC (Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C.), a ministry position he assumed in August 2016. After serving as Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in the Great Lakes Region (Chicago, Wisconsin and Upper Michigan) from 1998 to 2010, he helped establish Saving Orphans Worldwide, an arm of Church of God World Missions designed to provide program guidelines and financial support for funding daily operations at Church of God orphanages around the world. He comes to Delmarva-DC after serving 4 years (2012 – 2016) as Administrative Bishop in Kansas and Oklahoma (Heartland Region).
Pastor Rice has served in many vital areas of ministry since his call to ministry while still in high school. In addition to his significant work as State Youth and Christian Education Director for the Church of God in Arkansas (1978 – 82) and North Georgia (1982 – 85) he served as senior pastor of the Pleasantdale Church of God in Atlanta, Georgia (1992 – 1998). Prior to that he served as Resident Pastor of the Mount Paran North congregation in Marietta, Georgia (1988 – 92). His preparation for these pastorates included directing a metro-wide church planting ministry called Love Atlanta in which he was instrumental in establishing 22 new churches from 1985 to 1988. He has also been a member of many strategic community and denominational boards and committees, including chairmanship of the Mount Paran Christian School Board of Directors (1989 – 1994), Lee University Board of Directors (1986 – 2010; serving as Chair 2004 – 2010), General Youth and Christian Education Board (1984 – 86), Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta Board of Directors (1987 – 1993), and North Georgia Church of God State Council (1992 – 1996).
During his pastorates and denominational leadership roles, Darrell Rice was especially successful in outreach ministries, church expansion, mentoring and discipling ministries, and overall church growth.
From 2002 – 2010 he taught (adjunct faculty) in the Communication and Organizational Leadership major at Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL.
Pastor Rice is a graduate of Lee College with a B.A. in Biblical Education (1976), and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with Master of Arts in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication (1982). The faculty of UALR voted him the “Most Outstanding Graduate Student” in 1982.
He and his wife, Marsha, have three children – Joshua (PhD), an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, is a 1999 graduate of Lee University (Cleveland, TN), Columbia Theological Seminary, and Lutheran School of Theology (currently serving as teaching pastor for Eastside Church, Marietta, GA); Jennifer is a 2002 graduate of Lee University, 2005 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, and is an corporate attorney in Atlanta, GA (Equifax); and Jill is a 2004 graduate of Lee University and is a full-time mom in Seattle, WA. Darrell and Marsha make their home in Columbia, Maryland.
